On Thursday, March 12th, the Philadelphia Orchestra was slated to present their next installment of Beethoven Now! Over the course of the their concert series, they will present all 9 Beethoven symphonies in honor of it being his 250th birthday year. That night, they were to perform his Symphony No. 5 & Symphony No. 6. The concert hall was empty and they instead performed to viewers on Facebook Live. I was lucky enough to watch it live and knew that I needed to share it with you. I hope that you love it as much as I do.
Over the course of this assignment, you will listen to both symphonies and write an open response. Visit the Philadelphia Orchestra's Live Stream Link to watch, then respond to the questions. Both symphonies have four movements, or sections. Make sure that your response includes reflection on each movement of each symphony.
Day 1: Listen to Symphony No. 5 (first half of program) and write about your impression of it, as well as the Philadelphia Orchestra's playing (using specific musical terms).
Day 2: Listen to Symphony No. 6 (after the intermission) and write about your impression of it, as well as observations about the Philadelphia Orchestra's playing (using specific musical terms).
Please format your response as you would any paper (spell check, complete sentences, etc.) Enjoy listening!
